Clearing up the Misconceptions of Manifestation and the Laws of Attraction

Grace Hui for Incentre

Nowadays, we are all relatively familiar with concepts of manifestation, the laws of attraction and visualisation. Coaches, self help books and content on social media all talk about manifestation, the laws of attraction and visualisation as a means to create the life that we want. Often, the focus is on feeling as though we already have all things that we desire and as if we are already living the life that we want. The idea being that if by feeling and believing that we are already in that reality, then we would already be at least half way there.

But is that really true?

Of course, I am not suggesting that this is all new age woo woo. Manifestation, the laws of attraction and visualisation are all important components to creating a life that we want. However, this is not the full picture.

Something that is less talked about, is the idea of consistency and our active participation in the physical.

Physical Action

While visualisation is a useful tool to help us in the process of manifestation, it is not enough in itself to get us there. We live in a physical world and the physical world requires physical action to bring about what it is that we desire.

For example, we may desire to have a toned and lean physique. Through visualisation, we feel as though we are already in perfect shape. However, in physical reality, we are not going to get that toned and lean physique unless we actually hit the gym or embark on some sort of targeted and regular exercise regime.

Effective manifestation requires us to anchor what we imagine into the physical through action. Any manifestation plan that starts and stops with visualisation is ultimately going to be incomplete. Visualisation is meant to give us the inspiration to take the necessary actions. Visualising alone will only lead us to fantasy – nothing more.

Kabbalah – Thought, idea, plan, action

The literal meaning of Kabbalah is “to receive” - by asking a series of powerful questions and using our desire to transform, we can transmute the inner obstacles that stand in our way. This beautiful alchemical process is facilitated by the “container” the tree of life provides, which in turn, teaches us how to receive by accessing our inner wisdom and making manifest while being in alignment with our true self.

The Universal Hermetic Kabbalah states the four steps to successful manifestation. That of Thought, Idea, Plan and Action.

Thought

This is in the plane where all possibilities, manifest or unmanifest reside. Everything is possible in this plane and where we as humans have the creative spark to create.

Idea

From the plane where all possibilities reside, we form an idea of what it is that we want to create. From the buzz of infinite possibilities, we have now distilled an idea.

Plan

Once the idea takes root, we now begin to formulate a plan of how to bring this thing that we desire into the physical. The how, the when, the what. What do we need to do to bring this thing that we desire from the ether into the physical world where we live?

Action

This is the crucial part that we often fall short. But without this piece of the process, nothing will ever be made physically manifest. What actions do we need to take? And more importantly, what actions do we need to take consistently and regularly in order to make our plan come into fruition?

Accepting Reality

In our manifestation, we also have to be realistic. I don’t mean negative self-talk or pessimism. For example, I may have a dream to be the world darts champion but am lacking in hand eye coordination. Clearly, we have an immediate set back. However, this does not mean that I cannot become a better darts player. With consistent practice, I could even become a very good darts player. I may just not ever be the world champion.

Just because I cannot achieve the fullness of my dream does not mean that I cannot be the best darts player that I can be. I can still enjoy the game and play at a very high level knowing that I am improving myself through my consistency every time. In this way, I have manifested becoming a successful darts player without being bogged down by an impossibility.

To manifest effectively, we have to accept the reality of our limitations but still push ahead.

Consistency of effort will ALWAYS lead to improvement.

If you give up at the first sign of setback, you will NEVER be successful.

Sure, you may come to the conclusion that something is not worth your effort. But come to this conclusion because you have come to the realisation that it might not really be something you truly want and therefore not worth your effort – Not because you are afraid or can’t be bothered and would rather blame something else rather than your own lack of effort.

Consistency

There is a new age saying that has propagated that the way to go is “the path of least resistance”. Yet, this is incredibly misleading. Often, things that are of value require us to persevere, keep trying and pushing against the obstacles that arise. As Ipsissimus Dave Lanyon of the Modern Mystery School says: “Become bigger than the obstacle”.

We need to be consistent in our efforts in order to achieve what it is that we desire to achieve. For example, if you want to become a better tennis player, you are going to need to practice regularly. You are going to have to go to the gym and do the various conditioning exercises that will help you to up your game. You are going have to eat better. And, these efforts will have to be sustained – not one off attempts. There will be days when you feel lazy, or tired or simply rather chill on the couch watching Netflix but if you give in to these whims too often, you will not improve your game. Sure, talent may play a part but ultimately, those who succeed are those who dedicate themselves to their goals and who show up in a sustained and consistent manner.

The path of least resistance will NEVER help you THRIVE. It can only help you remain in survival mode whereby you will never feel genuine fulfilment. An easy life perhaps, but not a rewarding one.

Which does your true self prefer?

Another saying that has unfortunately gained traction is “What is yours will never pass you by”. This is again misleading. If you do not do anything to get what it is that you want, it will ABSOLUTELY pass you by.

A simple example is this. Say you want to improve your diet and lose some weight. But you do nothing to eat healthier. You do not go to the supermarket to shop for fresh ingredients. You do not cook for yourself. Instead, you order oily comfort food takeouts for all your meals. I can guarantee that what could have been yours – i.e. a healthier diet will pass you by! However, if you take the effort to go regularly to buy fresh ingredients and consistently cook healthy food for your consumption, you will make that healthier diet yours to enjoy.

Sayings such as these become an excuse for us to not do the things we need to do in order to get what we want. It allows us to avoid accountability and blame something external when in reality if we had taken ownership and responsibility to be CONSISTENT, we would have been successful.

To get what we want, we have to be willing to PARTICIPATE CONSISTENTLY.

To quote Ipsissimus Dave Lanyon’s book, Essential Principles for the Warrior of Light: “Struggle can provide a fertile ground for progression and discovery. Warriors of Light recognise that by confronting challenges, they learn more about themselves, their strengths, their limitations; where they are great at things, and where they need to improve themselves.

In other words, getting closer to your goal requires you to struggle consistently against the obstacles in your way. The complete opposite of the path of least resistance or waiting passively for what is “meant for you” to come to you despite zero effort on your part.

Know thyself – otherwise what are you manifesting?

In the Mystery School traditions, all students who walk the path of progression are on the path of Know Thyself. Our struggles and overcoming them to progress are often opportunities where we can get to know ourselves better.

The better we know ourselves, the more we will know what it is that we truly desire which in turn paves the way for more targeted manifestation. How do we know what to manifest when we don’t even really know what we want?

Are we wasting our efforts on trying to manifest something that we don’t truly want because we don’t know what we want? If so, what a waste of time and energy!

Getting to know ourselves may not always be easy and we may not know how to begin. This why a path of progression becomes a useful guide.

The Path

In the Mystery School traditions, the path of Know Thyself has been tried and tested for thousands of years. It is also a path that has been walked by many of the great men and women in history. Notable examples include figures ranging from Jesus to Leonardo Da Vinci and Carl Jung.

This journey begins with a Life Activation.

The Life Activation

The Life Activation is a universal modality designed to activate dormant aspects of our being, in accordance with the true ways of spiritual progression.

Once reserved only for high initiates of the ancient mystery schools, the Life Activation opens up our awareness of our true nature and make way for a fuller expression of our gifts, power and light in all aspects of our lives. The light they bring to all aspects of our being is incredibly healing – mind, body and soul.

Using an ancient protocol that has remained unchanged through the ages, the practitioner utilises a crystal wand to reawaken dormant DNA within our system to wake us up to our true selves with a far deeper connection to the divine.

Once our structure has been reawakened to our true divine nature, rebalanced and strengthened by the Life Activation, we become ready for the next step to help us know ourselves even more deeply – that of Initiation.

Empower Thyself Class and Initiation

This is a class and initiation that is called exactly what it delivers! It hands down teachings and rituals that truly empowers you by helping you to truly know yourself. It is only when you truly know yourself (or are on the path of getting to know yourself) that you can support you with clarity and focus in effective manifestation.

The increased light that initiation brings shows you where you need to make changes for yourself and equips you with the tools that you need to make those changes. (Don’t worry, it won’t leave you hanging!)

These unique teachings have been passed from teacher to student for over 3000 years, while much of the wisdom goes back 8000 years to the time of Hermes.  By going back to the source of the knowledge, you will gain a complete and deep understanding of these teachings.

Every Master of Light has received this initiation at some point, as it is the ancient method used to anchor more light into your structure, creating self-awareness, expansion and an increased sense of perception. This is a safe way to progress on your spiritual path, as we let light in gradually.

The initiation and the tools handed down guide and help us to work through each of our challenges so that we can surmount, master and transcend, enabling us to anchor what it is that we truly want into this physical reality. We will know what we want, what we can realistically achieve, how we can be the best versions of ourselves in alignment and manifest effectively from this higher level of understanding.

While it does not promise you a problem free life, (no one can promise this), it does provide the tools to not just survive or cope but to truly progress and improve from where you were before. It isn’t a short term “feel good” thing. It is genuine transformation.

In a nutshell

As humans, it is within our birthright to live in alignment with our true self which in turn means the ability to manifest a life of joy, fulfilment and purpose. To do this, we first need to become aware of who we truly are and to know where it is that we need to show up consistently for.
